Why it is good to promote only a few merchants at a time

Locating the most reliable and effective tips on the Web about affiliate marketing can be a difficult task because various affiliate marketing sites proliferate nowadays. However, you can be sure that this is a quality affiliate marketing article especially when you are a marketer.

Despite of the fact that affiliate marketing can be potentially rewarding, becoming and working as an affiliate marketer is not an easy task. The job demands you to exert a substantial amount of effort, time and management and apply marketing tactics to attain the desired revenues.

Affiliate marketing is a partnership between affiliates and merchants because they both earn revenues when customers engage in transactions after their marketing efforts. Affiliate marketers get a commission for every purchase or action done by referred customers on their merchant sites or by simply convincing the visitors to click the merchant's advertisement. The merchants, who are the advertisers, earn directly from referral sales and give a payment to their referrers. The more traffic an affiliate contributes to merchant sites, the higher the chance of getting greater revenues.

Marketers face several challenges when starting and operating their affiliate business. In the beginning, they brainstorm about the type of affiliate site they are going to build and decide what products they would endorse that match their site's topic. They consider many factors in order to come up with a good merchant. However, because marketers earn by promoting the products and services of merchants, it becomes tempting for them to sign up with many affiliate programs from different merchants to make more out of affiliate marketing.

As much as possible, promote only a limited number of products from few merchants in a given time. The main reason for this is that marketers tend to lose focus when they sell or promote products from many merchants. It is very important to know that affiliates must establish harmonious relationship with the merchants for better business partnership. If a merchant knows you promote the products of other merchants, they may be discouraged to give you incentives or bonuses and lose their favor on you.

Also, when you promote many merchants, you would need to allocate enough space for their text links and banners which could probably make your initial design cluttered or render ineffective especially when advertisement colors or designs result a "clashing appearance" to the web page. Promoting dozens of goods in a single web page also may overwhelm your customers and dissuade them from buying an item.

When you campaign a product in a page, be sure to provide the visiting users with detailed specification and alternatives. It could be that the alternatives might be what the visitors are looking for if not the main product. If you are building a product review site, publish reviews of a few products weekly and announce them to your registered clients in form of an e-zine or newsletters.

Affiliates are free to choose their own merchants to endorse. They can have direct partnership with a merchant or they can register to a third-party affiliate networks site (e.g. LinkShare) to find their appropriate merchants. While you could promote anything even if the products or services are completely irrelevant to your website's theme, it is highly suggested that you promote only related products as this translates to better conversion rates.
