Why is affiliate marking cheaper than traditional marketing

Looking for cheap forms of marketing is something that every business owner needs to be good at. Whether you own a large corporation or just a small sewing shop, marketing your business will need to be a skill that you learn, or that someone else does for you. If you do hire someone to market your business for you, it can end up costing a lot of money, without a guarantee that you make any.

Let's look at a typical scenario. Your marketer places a relatively small advert into the newspaper. It may be in black and white, simply stating what your business is about and the contact details. You will have to pay the marketer to do this job before you even know if it works. Normally it doesn't, or not as well as you would have liked. Perhaps a few people purchase some items, some will browse your shop, and most people will not get out of the door, but rather scan over the millions of adverts and articles to the cartoons page and throw the newspaper away without even reading your advert. Not benefiting from ads that you pay for does not make good business sense.

So what other ways are there to get your business known. Well, one such method is affiliate marketing. Your business will spread through word of mouth which is still considered to be one of the best ways to advertise. Other people will be selling your products for you, so your profit margin will increase, and you will only pay them when they sell something.

This works even better than hiring sales staff. For one, you have to pay them a monthly salary, which works out to more than you would pay an affiliate, and they will not guarantee enough sales because they know they will still get paid. Affiliate marketing is an incentive based program which ensures that you sift out the lazy people, and only work with go getters and people who believe in your business. People are more likely to become an affiliate when they know they can sell something.

This is also such a cheap form of advertising for your company because aside from the vast amounts of people that you will reach, you are saving costs by having no printing fees, no designer's fees, and no useless sales pitches. Now, only people who are genuinely interested in purchasing what you have to sell will be viewing, testing and buying your products. By selecting the correct target market of people, you can benefit greatly. Take a décor hire business for example. If they had to advertise in a general newspaper, they would be targeting most of the population including those who would not be interested, like middle aged men, and young teenagers.

If they had to change their focus and advertise in a bridal magazine, every bride to be would be relishing over their selection and requesting quotes. Who you sell to is very important, and affiliate marketing solves this problem of wasted money, because you are not sure of your target market.
