After your website is built, how do you monetize it?

You made the plan to build your web site several months ago and now you are almost finished. There are only a few more things left that you have to do. One of the things that you must do is to figure out how you are going to monetize the site. You can fund the site out of your own pocket if it is a labor of love but most likely this is not the route that you are going to want to take. You will want to figure out how you can make a living off of the web site. Thanks to the power of the internet that is now a possibility. We will show you the different ways that you can monetize the site and make sure that it will at least be able to support itself.

Why do you need to monetize it?
Let's say that you have a full time job and the web site is just for fun. You might still need to monetize the site anyway. Once a web site gets big enough, it can start to become expensive. Sure you can pay for the site with the money from your full time job at first but what if it gets bigger. Now you have to pay for more bandwidth, more server space, and a whole host of other things that can add to the cost of a web site. Are you still going to want to monetize out of your own pockets? This is why you need to look at revenue models early on. So you are not stuck with an expensive bill at the end of each month.

Donation
The first step that you can look at when you want to make money with the web site is donations. There are plenty of web sites on the web that make money with a donation revenue model. If people see value with the service that you provide, they will pay what they think it is worth. While this is a great model to cover the cost of the needs of the site, it will not make you enough money to live off of. If you have a donation model then you should always keep a full time job.

Ads
This is the most popular way that a web site makes money. Ads are everywhere on the internet and you cannot get away from them. Even when you have special ad blocking software installed you will still see ads propped up in different places. Ads have a lot of different models that you can use, so make sure that you pick the one that goes best with the people who come to your site. Learn what they like and give them ads that they will respond to. It is no good serving up ads that the people who come to your site are not going to pay attention to.

Sell items
Depending on the topic that your web site focuses on, you can start to sell goods on your web site. Once you become a trusted name in your niche, people will start to trust you with a lot of decisions. And if you sell them something, they will trust that it is the right thing for them as well. Make sure that you remember that. When you sell an item you must make sure that it is of high quality. If the people who receive the item do not think of it is as quality then that will reflect badly on your web site.

There are many different forms of revenue you can use when it comes to monetizing your web site. Pick what is best to your web site and run with it.
