There is nothing more distracting that tonnes and tonnes of marketing material and various advertising entering your inbox at every available moment. They can be non-related and have no interest in what you want to see. Email marketing, if done correctly can be a very effective tool for any e-business.

The principle problem today is that those of us, who use marketing strategies legitimately and have ethical values about it, cannot seem to filter out those who are just outright spamming. To the average Joe, there is no difference but for those of us who want to advertise effectively, the hindrance of spammers is a big set back. Any B2B organisations seem to be under the label of spamming should one consider to look at products to check out the compatibility.

Many sites nowadays are using spamming and various other types of blocking software, which can be a good way of limiting the amount of spam that enters your inbox. There are even services available where one can report supposed spam to authorities that then take appropriate measures. This may have an effect on spammers but also affects the legitimate marketers. There are more and more people that are choosing to opt out of newsletter subscriptions because of spammers.

It is important to realise that email marketing can lead to heavy consequences if incorporated with spammers. But this has put off legitimate marketers because some countries impose heavy fines on spamming and unfortunately some innocents get caught along the bumpy ride. Make sure you are extremely informative with your advertising.

Another good option is to employ double opt-in subscriptions. These are where a potential client subscribes to a service and then is sent a confirmation email whereby he or she clicks the associated link to confirm his or her subscription. This prevents things like unsolicited mail, spammers, and builds trust between you and the client. This method is simple to employ and is proving to be a very popular way of filtering the good from the bad.

One should also be careful of red flag words such as 'special' or 'discount'. These words can and are used too often, which deters people from wanting to find out more information. They are commonly associated with spammers too so it is necessary to avoid these phrases. Make sure you have a secured mailing list and correct virus protection to prevent unsolicited mail and potential viruses from hackers. Avoid things like co-registration and mixing lists. It is also important to be on top of your record keeping keeping it updated and active. Your mailing lists change all the time so you do not want to target people that are no longer interested.
