Using Flash Web Design Wisely

Using Flash is an excellent way to draw attention to your website. It almost certainly captures the attention of the viewer and invites them to explore further. Flash web design is a good tool to use when you want to liven and "jazz up" the website.

What is Flash? Flash is a program that uses vector based graphics in an uninterrupted movie format. Flash can incorporate sound to make the experience more pleasant to your visitor.

Flash programs are normally designed to load faster but flash web design creators have taken the opportunity to showcase their artistic abilities than take into account the purpose of the flash presentation. The main purpose of the presentation is to invite the user to explore, not be dazzled by its appearance.

To use Flash or not?

One must carefully consider the problems that might occur when using a flash presentation on their website. The first aspect might be to give the viewer the choice to skip the presentation and proceed directly to the content. Not giving the viewer the option to skip is tantamount to saying the viewer has no choice but to obey your rules in which case the viewer would just look elsewhere. A small skip button or link at the bottom or top part of the presentation should be seen right away and should not be hidden.

Bad flash web design does not help your site appear in search engine results. If the first page in your website contains a flash presentation, your site will never be indexed by any search engine. The best way to avoid this is to embed the flash presentation into the homepage so that text and links can be viewed by search engines.

Flash presentations take time to make. If your website needs to be online, work on the HTML content first, then add the flash web design component later on. The more complex the presentation, more time is needed.

In earlier versions of Netscape and Internet explorer, flash presentations could not be seen. However, all new browsers installed today can now view flash without any difficulty.

Despite these things to consider, using flash is never a bad move unless one carefully plans how to make it effective in directing traffic to ones site and keeping the visitors attention riveted on the content.

Flash web designs should be kept to a minimum and not overwhelm the viewer into thinking the website is all pictures and nothing else. Nothing constitutes bad flash web design than presentations that dazzle without a purpose, or why it was placed on the website.

Flash web design is also a good tool to use to keep your viewer interested in your website for a long time. It is a tool that appeals to the visual need of human beings and can convey ideas much more quickly than text can.
