How Webmasters Can Make Money as Affiliates

© AffiliateSeeking - This article is not allowed to be re-published but can be linked to.

You can make money by joining affiliate programs. Here we give an overview of the affiliate program, its setup and how it pays.

How To Join An Affiliate Program

To become an affiliate, the webmaster must first decide on the topic of their web site, and then find out what profitable items can be sold from it. If a webmaster runs a fan site about The Beatles, they might try selling Beatles memorabilia, music CDs and/or books about the Fab Four.

Next, the webmaster must look for the right affiliate program to join. Learn how they pay, what they pay you for (clicks, purchases, etc.?), how you must promote their business, and so on.

To sign up, you usually have to fill out a webmaster application form to be reviewed by a human before approval. If approved, you can begin advertising your merchant partner and start making money.

How Webmasters Make Money From Affiliate Programs

There are many kinds of affiliate programs. Here are the details to look for when choosing one:

- PROGRAM: The affiliate program will want the webmaster to sell something on its behalf. It may be books (Amazon), Internet marketing tools, sales templates for businesses, weight loss programs, food, etc. Often, the products you're asked to sell will be very helpful to you too.

- COMMISSION: This tells you how you can make money from the program, and how much. What percentage of each sale do you get? For how many tiers do you get paid (first, second, etc.)? Do you get bonuses for extra action taken by the customer you led? For how long do you get commissions per new customer you refer (some once, others for a month, or even a lifetime!).

- PAYOUT:
- MARKETING: How does the webmaster advertise the merchant's products on their site? The more options the better. Is a banner required? Buttons? Text? Do you have to recruit new affiliates? Or do you sell a product from your web site?

- BONUSES: What do you get for joining? To make money in exchange for promoting the merchant is nice, but it's nicer to get freebies!

- TERMS & CONDITIONS: Don't forget this! Read the small print before signing up for anything!

Note that some affiliate programs offer lifetime compensation, others very high commissions. But before you jump in, ask around and investigate. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If possible, look for other webmasters in forums and ask about their experiences. Many are kind enough to give you advice on how to make money. Good luck!
