Is Google AdSense universally beneficial? - An analysis

In the present business scene, no one wishes to leave any stone unturned to make money. So much so that realizing the convenience and lucrative nature of Google AdSense program, webmasters are largely displaying google ads across their web pages comprehending little about the cons that inadvertently may follow. The chase to earn more through commission from Google has become so blind that webmasters at times end up filtering qualified visitors from their own website to their competitor's website. In the guise of Google ads, a compelling ad from the competitor's website may easily take away a potential lead or sale from the affiliate. So the question is whether few cents from the google ads are worth it at the expense of loss of potential sales in US dollars.

Understanding Google AdSense is imperative here. An affiliate program from Google, Google AdSense Program associates with a multitude of affiliates website and advertiser websites. Acting as a middle man between them, Google AdSense allows extensive advertisement at lower rates for the advertising websites and opportunity to earn extra income for the affiliate websites for little efforts. Google places text ads left by the advertiser wherever the content of the website is relevant. Thus, contextual placement of links encourages higher proportion of qualified web traffic, as well as, more visitors to compelling ads.

Content-centric approach bindingly emphasizes on the product or service on sale as per the web content and places ads from websites selling similar products and services. Though relevant ads and links enrich the web page of the affiliate on the positive side, it may deprive the affiliate from potential sales and leads by diverting the interest of the visitor to a competitor's ad containing link to the website.

In other words, the affiliate webmasters selling some product or service need to be more judicious while going for Google AdSense, and later placement of ads across the web pages so as to maximize exposure and minimize risk.

Generally speaking, Google AdSense places ads either on the top or side or middle of the web pages. To minimize risk, it is advisable to keep away from placing any ad at the top of the web page. An ad on the top of the web page in most likelihood gets noticed before the content of the web page, in turn leading to direction of visitor to another website without communicating ones point across. To utilize the revenue option out of Google AdSense, if one must, one should put web content before any advertisement. It is better to place the ad at the bottom of the web page so that if the visitor is still not convinced about your product or service after reading the whole content, he/ she may be lured into clicking one of the advertisements and at least earn on pay per click basis through Google.

Associating with Google AdSense is a bright idea if the affiliate is either not selling anything or selling a unique product or service such that Google ads cannot pose a threat of diversion. Likewise, if the affiliate is confident that he/ she is offering the product or service at a greater value than any of his/ her competitors, going for Google AdSense is a good idea as it serves ready positive comparison for the website, consequential better conversion rate and extra income from commissions too.

At last but never the least, blocking the ads of competitors is not a good idea to evade risk. Quite logically so, as blocking ads may leave ones website with less relevant ads. No ads are better than irrelevant ads, as they reflect poor image for the website and questions the creditability of the product or service on offer.
