In developing a design for an ecommerce web site, you should consider different ways to attract and keep customers. Keep in mind that your web site is an online store where you display your products, receive your customers and generate some revenue in return. Basically, a good ecommerce web site design converts online window shoppers into real customers.

First of all, you should attract customers. A good ecommerce web site design utilizes the search engine optimization. Improve your traffic by generating enough (but relevant) textual content with important keywords. This is very useful because potential clients firstly consult the search engine and then clicking the results. Therefore, keyword generation should be considered with your text. However, do not forget the basic rules of grammar, as grammatically-wrong sentences reduce credibility points.

Next, your web site should be compatible with browsers. You might not know this, but there are almost a hundred browser brands that compete with Internet Explorer. So when designing an ecommerce web site, at least make it compatible with Internet Explorer or with Firefox, IE's leading competitor.

Images are also important in an ecommerce web site design. They are a very powerful tool to assist the seller with product sales, and are very important with customers. After all, no one wants to buy a product that they haven't seen, at least on the internet. Images should clearly depict the products and services offered.

Another thing to consider in designing an ecommerce web site is to have a usable site. Easy navigation should be available for customers. If they keep on clicking buttons and icons and simply cannot find what they want, they are more likely to move to other web sites. Always follow the "three-click-rule", which states that customers should be able to find what they want within three clicks of different icons.

Now that the customer is interested in buying your product, remember to put a shopping cart in your web design. A shopping cart is like a typical grocery art, only this time it collects customer details and computes prices plus tax and handling fees. A shopping cart handles the data needed for transaction purposes. Shopping carts can be availed through software packages.

Easy ordering is also a component of a good ecommerce web site design. Since the customer is already convinced of buying the product, seal the deal easily for them. Make sure it doesn't take more than one click to begin the ordering processes. Every page about the product should have an "Order Now" icon.

Other components of an ecommerce web site design that are equally important are the FAQ page, the privacy policy, testimonials and the "about us" page. Customers also look out for these pages, as these are critical to the seller's credibility. Put more emphasis by inserting credulous information that packages you as an elegant and honest trader.

A good ecommerce web site design is able to attract customers, promote your products and build a lasting relationship between buyer and supplier. these can be attained if your web site is accessible, user-friendly and credible.
