PageRank: Acting Brand New

Late last year something went down in the SEO world, literally. It was big and if you are into Internet marketing you would have noticed it. The Google PageRank of large numbers of publishers (gasp!), the ultimate navel gazing tool, took a big hit. Some dropped by two points and some by as much as 5. Should you care? Does it matter? And what is this PageRank business anyway?

That's just the case of being more competitive than the others.It's the thing number one you should think of if you want to be successful in this business.

Correct, thanks for the comment, whats your current PR, did you get a PR or dropped with the recent update.

I didn't feel any such effect and my PR is stable, Page Rank is the value given to a particular page by Google.

Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search.

Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

I still care about it, but not to the degree that it is the only thing that I care. The traffic and the rank is something that I care more!

Page Rank helps Google to learn about the important and relevant web pages to your search. It is very important to gain high ranking from Google.

I'm not so sure about Google's sophisticated text-matching techniques as there are high page ranking sites I know of that have limited or hardly any text. PR is a bit irrelevant as it only affects search results for certain narrow phrases or otherwise why aren't all the top spots in every search result high PR sites.
