Agree but disagree
Seems almost impossible to keep a website content small enough so there is no scrolling but all the important information should be in the top portion before scrolling occurs.

Using templates
If you decide to use a website template you must have a working knowledge of the particular program that accommodates the template you've purchased. I purchased a template for Swish and found that I had to upgrade to Swish 2. I thought I'd upgrade to Swish 3 thinking that I could edit the template but neither Swish 2 or 3 worked.

I think the first thing one should do is write down what they want to appear on the site... when it is all written down it is easier to focus on what is important, and therefore one is able to keep a website content small by cutting the unimportant fat.

Functionality over design. That's a good way of thinking.

I agree with the fact that simplicity is best in terms of web design. Making a website design a mess annoys users. Keeping it simple and attractive is the recommended approach

If you decide to use a site template, you must have a working knowledge of a particular program that hosts the model you bought. I bought a model for Swish and found I had to go swish 2. I just went swish 3 thinking that would change the model, but it did not work Swish 2 or 3.

Create folders for different types of files. If you are adding pictures to your site, you should have a folder named something like "graphics" or "pictures. This is where you will always place your pictures. If you have some pages about you and others about your kids, create different folders to keep each in.
