Who is your current host and are you satisfied?
I think if all of us share this information, it would help us build a database of the good, bad and ugly web hosts and help us choose the right host.
So let me start first, right now I have a knownhost reseller account for almost six months. I am quite satisfied with them, due to good uptime and friendly support staff.

I used to have hosting with them, however their biggest problem is their customer support or should I say lack of it. I never got an answer from them in less than 16hours of submitting the ticket, thankfully though they fixed problems way before that.

I agree with customer support. When it comes to web hosting or domain names the support of the provider or registrar is one of the main things that you need to be very good. Imagin you were earning $100 a day and then your site went down and something was wrong with your server and it took a day or more to get support. That would be so annoying as you would have lost over $100 with that and also it is not just about the earnings that you would have lost. You would have also lost some of your regular visitors, new visitors that may have returned back to your site time and time again, plus the major search engines could have come to your site to crawl it while it was down.
I personally prefer a web hosting provider that offers many ways of being able to contact them. There has been many times that I have contacted mine via phone and I always get support promptly which is great.

As to godaddy support they do take a while over email but when I contacted support over the phone, I got the problem fixed immediately though you gotta be careful because sales & support are the same number so you do get people who know less than you so if they arent helping just ask politely to talk to someone else.

I have a few
I am using godaddy as well which I really don't have any trouble with and they seem quick to fix things even though they respond really slow
I am also using 1&1 and talk about slow on the reply and the reply just brings more questions I liked them and could figured most of it out but when I had a question about something just takes so dam long for them to respond
I just started using HostGator they seem really great so far I love the live chat support that helps so much when I get stuck just hop on there and get the problem taken care of right away
so if I had to chose the best out of the ones i have I would say HostGator for sure

I use 1&1 for three of my sites... and you're right, they're slow as heck when responding...
I use Hostrocket for my main pride and joy. They have the best support I've ever had. They answer quickly, and they have great features! I love everything about them. In fact, I reccomend them if you want good uptime. They took care of my recent problem within 5 minutes!

I was with godaddy, but have just recently switched to yahoo. I'll be launching my first official site next week, yahoo seems to be on the high side in terms of price. But they make it pretty easy for a newbie like me to edit my site, so I am willing to pay the higher price.

That is one hosting company that I really would not host a site with ever again. They are very expensive for what they have to offer. OK it is owned by Yahoo which is a very large and popular site so they know how to keep a server up and running I would imagin, but what you get for your money in features is not that much. For example, you could pay less and get much more bandwidth and webspace elsewhere.
When I started all this web stuff, I first started with Yahoo Geocities. I then went from having it free to actually paying for it where I then got a free domain name and more features with the web hosting, which cost me around $8.99 per month. I was paying that and didn't have php or mysql features with the web hosting at Yahoo.
I have heard that many people have gone with them and have got their domain names for free and then once they move away from Yahoo, they have then not been able to transfer their domain over to a new registrar as Yahoo keeps them. This had not personally happened to me though. I successfully got my domain transfered, but the registrar provider they use or was using at the time was very expensive so I had to change to a cheaper hosting provider. The domain alone was costing nearly $40 AUD for a .com with Yahoo's provider.

for affiliateseeking, that's interesting. I hope that's not the case for me. I went with them because they made it pretty easy for a newbie like me to publish my first site. They definitely aren't my longterm hosting company though.

I am with Dreamhost and I am satisfied with what I am paying them. Although its a little slow, but it is worth the price. And yes they oversell but I dont need the extra space.

I've been using LiquidWeb as my primary host for over a year now and they've been super. I can call them anytime, day or night, and get a live tech person right away. No complaints at all!
