Is launching a web directory worth it?

I want to know whether it is a good time to come up with a new web directory or not. I want to get some feedback about the web directories from the fellow directory owners. I am keen on knowing whether their sites are working fine or not. I would also like to gain details about the revenue. What should I consider in order to make my upcoming web directory a popular one? If you think that the web directory business isn’t doing as great as it was a few years ago, please inform me. Thank you very much in advance.

You need to have a website that is generating traffic before you can think about advertising, as the poster above said you will need to do a lot of SEO to get your site a decent amount of traffic. What will you offer different to what is already available?
