Are there any web hosts where you can preorder web hosting for someone else as a gift, or where you can buy a web hosting gift card? I might want web hosting for Christmas if it's possible to do.

There are a couple of companies that offer specific Wordpress hosting. Network Solutions is one that springs to mind. It means you only get access to the Wordpress panel, and not to any SQL database or anything, so only pick it if you're sure you only want to do Wordpress.

Apart from that I can echo the other replies. Compare web hosts that guarantee uptime, have 24/7 phone support and get good feedback on the forums. You tend to get what you pay for, so the cheapest hosts sometimes don't own their own data centers and even though they quote high uptime, there's no guarantee, meaning that if they go down, you're not entitled to refunds or anything.
