It is easy to optimize the keywords that you choose if you had a lesser competitors. Because lesser competitors + more searches = to good ranking in your keyword optimization

The easiest work is to optimize that short keyword within your site, however, the hard part is getting backlinks from other sites with that same keyword as an anchor text. Even if you have a marketing budget is hard to find the right sites to promote your site.

Your keywords should be based on how you want your site displayed. Think about the things that you want your traffic to search to find your site. Using the keywords or key phrases that are most likely to be searched will make your site easier to reach.

usually short tail keywords have high competition, which means it is a little bit harder to optimize than on long tail keywords. But still it depends on the niche.

I think short keyword takes more time as compared to long tail keywords but the niche of your website is really important for creating a reputed keyword image over search engine.

Most if not all short keywords are highly competitive, so it might not be easy to optimize them within your website. However if you already have these short keywords chosen for your business, there is no reason for you not to use them. Just modify them a bit. Make them specific to the area you are serving by adding its location to your short keywords. This way, your keywords will be more focused on getting traffic from a specific area.

Short keywords will bring more traffic to you, even if you'll have more competitors
