The best option to establish a wide online presence on the internet today is through the use of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or Social Media Optimization (SMO). SMO looks to create a stronger media presence whereas SEO looks to improve the overall performance of the website. Both processes have been noted to be very effective in improving the traffic and search rankings of websites. And most websites use both these strategies equally to enhance their online presence. But which one of these is more effective? Has anyone used SEO, or SMO methods? Which is more effective and why is it so?

SMO is a part of SEO. If you do both you can have search engine traffic plus you can get Some direct traffic from SMO links. So You can do SEO and SMO.

SEM,SEO,SMO,.....etc its all the same thing fellas, building links. Through the years SEO has evolved from simple DWP's(now illegal)meta tags and basic link building to the world of Social Media,bookmarking,web2.0, mixed with a little bit of everything else Facebook,twitter,digg, etc....Are all meant to do one thing
