According to my SEO expert, search engine marketing can take a site to great heights. It can propel a website to success. I want to know about the difference between SEO and SEM. Can someone tell me about it? I would appreciate any help and guidance in this regard. I am a newbie who is just learning the tricks of the trade. I know I have a long way to go. I want to learn from the experiences of SEO professionals.
While some people use SEO and SEM interchangeably, SEO is actually a part of SEM. SEO refers to the process of using on and off page factors (typically free) to get your web pages ranked for your chosen keywords in order to get more search engine traffic to your sites. SEM takes it a step farther to include using paid search engine listings and paid inclusion to get more traffic to your websites.
According to me SEO is part of SEM, SEM include everything related search marketing, even PPC. But SEO is nothing but a part of SEM process, SEO is the search engine optimization to drive free traffic to your site through search engine site.
SEM = Search Engine marketing and SEO = Search engine optimization. In a broad term both are same. Basically we need this to get higher ranking our site on the prior search engines.
Both SEO and SEM are both broad terms and they encompass lots of things. Basically though, as most people state here, SEO or search engine optimization stems from SEM or search engine marketing, whether it is paid or not. If you want to market your website to the available search engines, then you would have to make use of SEO tactics to be able to go forward. It is, however, true that you could get more our of paid SEM tactics. These include inclusion in search engine listings.
