uhmm, that's a very broad question... For On Page Seo, it is important that your targeted keywords are placed all over the web page... to the title, description, alt tags, header and content.

On page optimization activities are done within the site and has nothing to do with other activities.These activities make sure that the website is optimized as per the norms of search engines.To list out,we have below major on page activities:
- Content Optimization
- Meta tags optimization
- Alt tags for images
- Anchor text for links
- Header tags

Website has to be Content full with relevant keywords, if we use any images or pictures you will have to use Alt attributes, and define TITLE Tag of the web page and Meta keywords. These are on site SEO techniques. H1 and H2 tags are very important as part of onsite SEO.

Like Kateblake said, the number one tip is create interesting content people will want to read.
Then figure out the keywords people will use to find your site and include those in your URLs, your title tags, H1 tags, and content.

Just the title of the page is important. The other meta-tags have no effect in SERPs. The H1, H2 have also good effect. The alt of the image is important too. Generally speaking, it's better to have a good internal structure of the site and good loading speed.

The meta description also helps. Not from an seo standpoint, but it's what shows up as the description in the serp. Could affect whether a viewer clicks on your site or not.

I think no one can define on page better than this, title and h1 tags both combine are 70% of on page SEO.
