Hi,

My website host is an American server (GoDaddy). I want to keep the domain, but for SEO reasons, I want to change the American server with a Canadian one. Are there any chances to loose on rank, back link, etc?

Yes it will definitely effect the website as the ip address will also change. may be it will also penalize as well.

I think no there will be no effect at all. Because when you make backlinks you make it with the domain name. Not the IP. Suppose you want to host your site from 5 servers. One day you decide to host it from 6 server or 1 server. How there will be a effect on your site. So only domain name matters not server. For more descriptive info you can try google guidelines. Or you can ask it to their forums. I think you will satisfy with that. Best of luck.

There will be temporary fall on rank probably, but don't worry, after few days it will be recover.

There will not be any effect on your ranking. You just have to switch over carefully.

I think it is really good move, to host the site where you are targeting, i think there will not be any differences.
But this needs to have a great care and you must be having the knowledge of moving the site from one host server to the other.
while doing so, give message to the bot that the site temporarily down. This is because, when the bot visits the site and cannot access the files there should be some message passing to it. Please do some research on which error message to be passed to the bot, while your moving your site from one host to the other.
