If you have a new website and you want it to be indexed as soon as possible. So that your website can be found on the World Wide Web within the best possible time. Then you need to position your website for search engines, to easily pick your url by doing the following:

* Use the site URL and targeted keyword as signature in high traffic forums
* Add the website to Google webmaster tools account
* Create a sitemap with Google sitemap and add it to Google webmaster tools account
* Submit your post to micro blog and social bookmarking
* Keep the page titles unique and short
* Keep feeding good contents, because Content is King
* Do not use auto software for search engine.
* Backlink to your site must be quality not quantity and be relevant to your content.

I think is will reduce the problem of some newbie on how to get indexed fast. if the above tips is used effectively you may be indexed in Google with 24 - 48 hours. All the best.

It does not takes too long unless you have do nothing on your website... You must do something like link building and submissions to make it easier to get listed.

Well it depends. Some people can manage to get their web pages indexed on Google and other search portals very quickly while others may complain about long delays. The newly launched websites might find it a bit difficult at first because they are still new and need to prove they are of high quality. The next point is to use useful options like fresh contents addition, link building, the Google Webmaster Tools that is like a must for domains admins these days.

the easiest way is to obtain few quality links to your website. If you use a Wordpress platform your site will be indexed very fast. Don't forget the content. It must be unique. The copied content will be ignored by Google.

It depends on your SEO compaign. As I know about some blogs, which have indexed on pr2-3 only with in 6-8 months, and there are some sites for 2-3 years too, but only with pr 1 or less

There are so many factors that will decide how much time any new website will take in Google search engine like domain history, content and how you are trying to index it etc.

It doesn't take too long as long as you know the process. One is you could bookmark your site to top social bookmarking sites, you could submit your RSS feeds to RSS aggregators, you could syndicate your articles to article directories.
