Are symbols SEO-friendly

Hey friends, I want to know if the symbols are SEO-friendly or not. For my site, I was working on various SEO services. And I thought of knowing if I can use symbols or not. In case I use $, can Google equate it with a word – dollar. My basic question is can Google read them as symbols but understand them as words? I want to know in terms of net users too. Do people search with the word or a text? For instance, if they look for 100% guarantee, then how would they type it? Will they use symbol or type ‘percentage’?
