Help to optimise a website

I wonder if anyone can help me as I have been given the job to help someone optimise a wordpress website. I can't see where to edit the meta tag details. Are they hidden somewhere and is it possible to optimise each page or do the tags apply for every page as in some cheap templated websites?

You can do it your self. for guide Google is ready for every time. You can also put your site for review in good forum site. when i was doing first time. i was putted my site on forum and get ideas. and then implement.
