Which is more important in SEO, Content or linking?

In the area of Search engine optimization techniques; there are two different trains of thought in getting optimization done. The first category believe that “Content is King” and follow it strictly while the other category believes that “Link is the King” and this is where there is a debate.

I too am confused in this area as to what plays a more important role in SEO, the Content or the Linking part?

The world of SEO is not a precise one and it has a bit of art and experimentation in it.

Though both of them are really important, there are a lot of advantages on both sides and suggestions and comments on that area are most welcome.
So can anyone give me an idea as to which train of thought probably is on the winning side?

The main objective of SEO is to get visitors and business.

If you have lots of backlinks and good serp in Google but the quality of website content is poor then you can't retain your visitor for a long time and accordingly bounce rate also increasing.

In other hand if you have good quality content then visitors will stay and return again and again. not only that then can recommend your sites and you can get quality links.

Both are important imho. BUt some websites are static and do not have much new content. So linking for those type of sites are more important.

But for a blog type site, content is more important that links. i could be wrong :P

Well, content comes under onpage optimisation, which is important to get off page optimisation results. And linking comes under off page optimisation. In my option, content is the most important as google gives the maximum importance to the contents.

Well, I think that there are not one more important than other one. I would say that they are equal, and have an equal necessity. Definitely, if we want to succeed in our on-line business we should use them both. That's what I think.

In my opinion Content is the king in SEO as having a good content on the site helps to get more visitors. Also good content can helps to get backlinks for teh site which affects to get better PR for the site.

Everything is important as you can't separate link building and content. If you want a good link, you should give a link to good content.

Well, I would go for the content as it is the most imp thing in SEO other then any. Search Engine will often crawl your website if you have something new in your site or blog. So if you provide fresh and useful content then only you get results faster.

In seo, you cannot specify something being totally useless. Both the content and the links have their own importance and a good seo person should work on both.
