Social Media Optimization (SMO) has the power to bring in large amounts of targetted niche traffic both very quickly and on a long term basis, unlike tradittional SEO which is more of a steady traffic load. Weighing out both SEO and SMO both have there positive effects and both go hand in hand, but as companies now are looking for quick turnaround times SMO is a great way to achieve that while slowly build up the position of the SERP ranking to also achieve the desired keyword positions in the major search engines. Here we will compare the benefits of both Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Optimization.

For example you submit a story to Digg, your story gets very popular beinging in floods of traffic in the short term, but it then has a knock on effect with webmasters and blogs linking back to that popular story thus giving a nice selection of natural backlinks which the search engines love.

Well, in my point of view, both holds important place. Both are important in their own ways. For traffic SMO works well and will it comes to acquiring backlinks, SEO plays and important place.
