2 things ... first of all ... the PR Google uses is different from the one you can see in the toolbar, that one is updated every 3 months, so it could very well be that your PR is already much higher, it just doesn't show yet, the next PR update should happen end of July, beginning August
then, to get a higher PR, you need to get lot's and lot's of links from good PR pages ... so, what you need are ... more links !

Understanding how Google calculates rank will not help you now. I suggest you have to WORK ON RAISING YOUR RANK without asking about the calculations. WORK. Soon enough, Google will see your efforts.
Anyway, here are some things that will help you improve your rank.
1. Write and regularly update content of your site.
2. Do usual SEO -- directory submission, article writing, and blogging.
3. Watch out for your keywords to be staggered in your content.
There are lots of things that you can do out there. And they're abslotely far better to deal with than thinking about Google Mathematic.

the thing is that pagerank is no longer the main factor
what you want is to get high in the search engine result pages
to get their you need to have your keywords on your page; in the title, the header in the content etc
but most of all you need links with those keywords in it pointing to your site
and ! aim for different keywords for each page !

hey
Submit your websites to various directories & search engines, and make your site SEO friendly so google crawler can crawl your website easily.
I think this will surely help you to get a nice PR.
cheers

When you say SEO-friendly that means a perfect balance between text links and graphic links right? I noticed that most sites, especially travel sites, don't have nice PR due to more images than texts.

Google's Page Rank (PR) is a numeric value that represents how important a webpage is on the web. This PR is calculated by how many webpages in internet is pointing to our site's webpage. Google Toolbar shows the PR of every webpage. We can Install Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer or firefox. PR3/PR4 is Good. PR5 is very good. PR6 is excellent. We can increase PR value by gaining more quality links.

This was good advise. Don't worry about PR. I have sites with low PR with high rankings. Sites that are below me have higher PR. That is becasue what Google shares isn't the real deal anymore.

Google update sites pagerank almost everyday or more than 1 time on a single day. The Pagerank that is shown on the toolbar will be updated only every 90 days. That's not up to date.
The first thing should do is stop worrying about your pagerank and build more anchored links to your site. Your ranking will increase as long as your links increased. I used to get very addicted with the pagerank thing and forget about traffic. I used to get PR 3 and still get 10 visitors per day only.

Joining forums is a great way to meet other designs and to network. If you become an active member in forums you can use your reputation to promote your website. Many forums receive large amounts of traffic and people pay attention to well respected members with high post counts.
Submit your blog to search engines

Writing articles
Writing articles is a great, free way to promote your online business, and can bring in a substantial number of targeted customers to your site, usually within a few days. The key is to submit your article to as many databases and directories as possible.
