If these blogs and forums are do-follow, then they will help in increasing your SERP. Also, it is more better to have related blogs and forums to post your links to.

It depends on your niche. If your target visitors are those into chat, FB and Twitter, then you are inclined to spend more time in those area. But if your target are online business owners, SEO specialists, marketers and the like, then you should put more effort into article marketing and forum postings. Try to balance all your strategies so you won't neglect any of it. Good luck!

Forum links do indeed help you, just make sure they are dofollow. And of course you don't just want to use forum links as a way to build backlinks, you want to use everything you can. Forum links are just one way to build back links.

That's right. Blog commenting and forum posting are not the only link building methods. You can also do blog posting yourself, not just commenting someone else's blog, and social media optimization.

I definitely agree, because most of the backlinks in our website that Google counts comes from forums and blogs.

Does anyone know if you get one link credit per forum or does each comment you make count for a separate link? For example does a link with a signature linking back to your site get credited once if you only post once in a forum? Or if a person has say 50 postings in a forum are they getting credit for all 50 backlinks?

Forum Backlinks
Yes and no,
Yes, you get one link credit to your site for each post that you contribute to a forum (As Long As you Have a Signature Link).
No, not all links are create equal.
With that say, if all your posts on any forums always say something like this: "I agree" or "me too", that is not activity.
Search Engines Love to See Activities, as well as the forum Administrator. Speaking of which, your account could get ban if All your posts are no more than a good sentence.
