Reputation management is the process of tracking an entity's actions and other entities' opinions about those actions; reporting on those actions and opinions; and reacting to that report creating a feedback loop. All entities involved are generally people, but that need not always be the case. This systems use various predefined criteria for processing complex data to report reputation. However, these systems only facilitate and automate the process of determining trustworthiness.

Reputation management is a extremely labor serious process. Any approach that is subtle and up till now effective will take time, at least three months, before any progress is really seen.
This includes many different strategies..
- Blogs that are updated every day
- Listing a website in directories using optimized keywords
- Hiring someone to write good reviews of the company on websites
- Syndicated article writing, links, and banners
- Posting pages on MySpace.com and Facebook.

Reputation management separated into three different categories. Obviously, it is managing the reputation of a company, but it can be for a company of any size, whether it is a larger company who wants to self-promote, or a just-established company which wants to get its name out there.

Reputation management is similar to reverse SEO in that it tries to reduce the bad press for the site online and remove any negative links to your site.
