You'd probably need a plan on how to pull off onsite and offsite promotion, consistently. Fixing your site's 'details' - from the metatags to the navigation's ease - and making sure relevant keywords are used in strategic places in the article (which should be focused and tightly written), including anchor text. Offsite, you need to drive traffic to your site from high page ranked sites, and you do that through back linking efforts. That's how you do fishing for traffic. Sticking to the idea that one, best, golden tip will solve things is probably not the way to go. Hope this helps.

If I only have to choose one, it would have to be quality link building. This is applicable for blog commenting and forum postings too.

I wonder how long quality articles with no plagiarism snags in Copyscape can remain 'original' for long. These can so easily be rewritten. Following this logic, maybe articles with good angles should be sought out, repacked, and 'redistributed.'

Doing both On-Page and Off-Page Optimization. On-Page Optimization (done within your site) first then next is Off-Page Optimization (done outside your site). These two should go together in order to create better results.

Do quality link building as much as you can because by this only you can
