In my opinion,lots bookmark sites have no effect for our site,when i submit my site to some bookmark sites and then i check it in my google webmastertool,i just found only a little backlinks from those bookmark sites.

Back links are crucial in the SEO. if you really want to make success in the real SEO game, think "quality" not "quantity".

Remember, use keywords for anchor text not company name. Because users use keywords for serch not a company name.

IMO, get your site listed in the search engine directories - first submit your site to the human edited directories of ODP (Open Directory Project - dmoz.org) and Yahoo (yahoo.com).

Getting listed in these directories will give your site a boost in link popularity and improve search engine ranking in other search engines.

Theoretically, yes, but, the number also counts in the process. You won't expect u site rank high in the serp with one or two high quality links, do u??

Backlinks get increased only when a Google crawler finds the trust in your site as, so many things matters here as, the amount of quality traffic the site is getting, and the quality inbound links which are very important.

Well i don't totally agree with above mention answers, First important thing is Structure of your site and Content of your site, if you made your site For real peoples , Then every search engine Give you good Ranking in SERPs, But if you want to make it better then you have to generate back links for your site, then its come part of building back links to improve your SERP Ranking. So both Are very important Things if you want to make your site popular and Want to have Lot of visitors on your site

yes agree with that but its like race for links which every one is behind to win however there are many other factors in SEO also and backlinks is only one factor
