I think so. If you have enough reputation, you can add a sig. And if your answer does really help others, people would be more likely to click your sig.

Yes, Forums signatures are being treated as a vote to your site. Forum signatures are great when your Forum's topic match your signature's website but Google is smart at detecting if a link is a Forum sig or a website link and thus can easily devalue the links from Forums.

its better to talk about the forums signature later, first of all get the basic idea of why forums are being there?
to share the knowledge with real time ones.
once contributing to the forums, then have signature for your postings.
By this way you can get back links for your site and positions get improved

I don't agree with the premise that the forum must be directly related to your type of site. I think it all is good. We all can't just hang out in forums directly related to our sites, if we want to get a broad overview of web world. Yes, if I am in weight loss and I post a lot in weight loss forums, that's great for authority, but if I post here...I'm not going to get penalized for it. It may not get me quite as much benefit, but all forums of good quality and that vet their members carefully will produce good back links.

Would this help my site? I know I only have a handful of posts here, but I have a lot of posts on other forums. Just wondering how much this helps.
Also, is it a bad idea to link to let's say two of my niche sites here and then the same two on another sig? Or should I mix it up: like link to two sites here and link to two different sites on a different forum sig?

Better thing to do is to link to one of your webpage as it would look more natural. Linking it all to your homepage is quite useless.

Forum signatures help to increase traffic. Almost all the Forms allow you to leave signature, or link in the post or reply with dofollow.

The signatures from forums have effect in SERPs. However, the forums must be related with the content of your site and the content of the links. If the forum is not related to your web site content, the effect of links will be very weak.

Forum signature is very useful as you must aware of the relevant category where you are submitting your post.
