see the results, pick at least 3 of those results

go to backlinkswatch or any backlinks discovery tool you know

start with the first result and see how this website is getting backlinks. see the links pointing to this site, some will be link exchange, others will be domains owned by the same webmaster, and some will be from link building strategies or services the webmaster use, link blog commenting, forums, directories and guest blogging and more.

now try to have some backlinks from the same sources

link if you found a backlinks from a comment, just post a comment on the same post, if its from a forum, register to that forum and try to get your own backlinks also and so on.

researching what successful site are already doing will give you better answer to what work and what is good for Google.

Lot of difference are in SEO after penguin update, now you need quality, relevancy naturalism and combination of backlink. And all strategies are still effective.

If your website come under penguin effect. Now first of all remove your all low quality backlink and then manage your onpage and optimize according to the term and condition.after onpage optimization go for offpage optimizatio. some sites call you for pay when you want to remove backlink from their website, you can mail to google about this and Google ignore your backlink from such sites.
