What are some of the good reasons and bad reasons to choose SEO as a Career?

Good reasons for choosing an SEO Career:
Well paying job once you have years of experience under your belt.
A variety of job styles available: run your own SEO company, contract work or work in-house.
Work from home.
Challenging, creative, rarely bored.
When running your own company you can often make your own hours and take time off when you want to.
Working from home or on contract you are basically your own boss.
When working on your own websites using SEO you may be self sufficient in terms of earning your own money with no client interface.
SEO industry is always changing with more to learn.

Bad Reasons for choosing an SEO Career:
Running your own business can be challenging.
Can be difficult to satisfy clients when running your own company.
Working with corporate businesses or within a corporation you may deal with numerous people in order to achieve your goal, it can be a longer process.
Working in-house you may not get paid what you think you are worth.
Clients can leave you in the lurch for payment unless you require a deposit.
Contract work can be available here and there, often pays less depending on the size of the company paying for contract work.
Running your own company means paying self-employment taxes and buying your own health care and it is more difficult to find time to take vacation time.
In-house jobs may require multiple skills (SEO, programming, analytics, management, etc.) and may limit the jobs you are qualified for.
Need a BA degree or better to qualify for many in-house jobs and may need to relocate for job.

There are no doubt many more but these are the first reasons I thought of.

I agree with SEOworks about the advantages of SEO, but in addition to disadvantage, being an SEO is a bit tiring, I mean, its a monotonous job where in you get to do things over and over again.. and might make you frustrated, it was just my point...

There is only bad thing about choosing SEO as a career and that Time management. You need spend a lot of time in SEO. except this i don't see any other reason.

SEO is always a challenge as every website is different and SEO is constantly changing so you have to keep update yourself in the world of internet.

I SEO work is not a prestigious work and I think SEO will not have a future

i thinks SEO jobs more dependable on your skills of each and every new internet marketing tactics and on mostly Google.

To choose SEO as a career is good but it is very complex & deep. You will have to refresh each and every day with fresh contents. Also one benefits that you will make money online through internet marketing as well.

Overall, i think that SEO as a career is not that bad. It just takes time to achieve targets in it and needs a lot of patience.
