Up to my understanding, Indexing means visiting your site by Google search engines. Thus improves the page rank for your site. Whenever Google crawls your site thus improves back link and keyword for your site

I think your think is right. I agree from your suggestion. Yes when our page listed by google search engine then it is called indexing by google and when our pages cash by google or our page information check by google then it is called crawling by google.

When Google bot reads the contents and description etc..on any web site that is called crawling .....and....when Google search engine store that web's data in its own data base then it is called indexing.
