Difference between SEO and PPC

I know this might be a little elementary, but what is the main difference between SEO and PPC? Do you consider PPC to be part of SEO?

SEO is the process whereby your site becomes more attractive to the search engine, resulting in the search engine giving your site the top ranking when someone does a search for a term that is related to your service.

PPC, on the other hand, is a specific service that you will pay for. Essentially, at the most basic level, PPC advertising causes a link to your business to show up on the sidebar of a site. Whenever someone at that site clicks on that link, you ll pay the advertising company a very small amount.
