How to get international traffic?

Hi,

I understand that server location is a big factor for search engines when they decide how high you should rank in search results for a specific country.

The funny thing is I am getting more traffic from country where I am based but not the country of the server (US)

There are also a lot of US content but it is still ranking way higher in the UK than US. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

For international traffic for the site. try to work on social networking sites, high pr bookmarking sites,directory submissions,articles etc.

Try to get your keyword ranking up and find out keywords that are mostly used in US etc. and target that keyword in your website. and make your content quality high and informative.

You see Google likes to be helpful to its users...Maybe it felt that your website is more useful to the UK audience, prolly because:
- You have specified your geotarget location as UK in GWT
- You have a .co.uk TLD
- Your website content is more optimized for keywords targeting UK populace
- Your website has more backlinks from .co.uk websites
- You have promoted your website amongst UK forums, communities and networks

Server location matters only negligibly. If you want to target US visitors, you will have to clearly tell Google so...

It might be due to the fact that your ranking in US is not so prominent as from the location from where you are getting maximum click. Server location is just one of the factors out of hundreds of ranking signals so the phenomenon observed by you is not so common.

Your website may be promoted in UK base websites directories or any may be link backed with UK sites why you are getting traffic. Concentrate on US base websites to divert traffic.
