SEO on Domain Only?
If I've found a domain name which contains some of my keywords and want to forward to my existing website, what SEO, if any can I do on just the domain name, I'm thinking not much if any at all. Nobody is targeting this particular set of keywords either. Is it worth buying a domain name without a hosting account for it from an SEO perspective?
Hope this makes sense

Not sure if I understand but will give it a whirl - lol
If you are redirecting a domain that is brand new, unless there is good type-in traffic, it will not help you at all. It can't hurt to register and forward it just to stop someone else from developping the name.
I do not think you can SEO a domain name in itself but it could be done if you made a nice page on the domain. It wouldn't take long to write a one page article and a couple links sending the traffic to your main website.
This way you could SEO the page and get relevant traffic to your website.

You can possibly buy this domain to sell it to another prospective buyer for a profit, apart from that, there is little you can do with just the domain.

This sounds like a good idea. But i think its not going to make a difference with keywords. Domain names will not be taken in by search engines except for when showing the url down the bottom of the content.

keywords on domain name is a good factor but it won't work well and does not help your website much if you will only depend your SEO on the domain only... there are lot of factors you should also consider...

I think relevant domain name is good for seo but its not seo. SEO dependent on quality work. If you want promote your site in search engine you need hard work.

not really understanding the question. Can you clarify? Personally I believe that its pointless to take the time to buy a domain if those keywords get no traffic..unless you think that niche will be popular in the future?

If you're redirecting a domain that's brand new, unless there's great type-in visitors, it won't assist you to whatsoever. It can't harm to register and forward it just to quit somebody else from developping the identify.
I don't believe you are able to Search engine optimization a domain identify in itself however it might be carried out in case you created a good web page about the domain. It wouldn't take lengthy to create a 1 web page post along with a couple hyperlinks sending the visitors for your primary web site.

Exactly, its important to include the keywords you want to rank for in your domain thats the key to success. Make your main page the main keywords you want to rank for and your other pages the longer tail keywords.

Certainly choosing the right type of domain that is keyword rich could be very great indeed but nowadays that would not be enough since in most cases, the only way to gain some top ranks in the hot business niches would be via addition of lots of links to the websites. No wonder some top ranking domains are found that are not containing the targeted terms and yet due to their strong link popularity status, they are listed at the top of Google.

Buying a domain and 301 redirecting it to your main domain is ONLY helpful if the domain you're buying already has inbound links with link text containing keyword phrases you want to rank for.
The only other option is to buy a keyword rich domain, build out content there, build links to it, and then use that bought domain to link to your main domain. But this doubles your SEO and content generation work. You're better off spending that time just working on your main site.
There is no "free lunch". Gimmicks like this don't work anymore.
