Yes same problem i face it when i submit in dmoz directory list but not approved at all. may be dmoz approve paid listings fast and high pr site who are relevant to there site.

DMOZ takes lots of time to approve. If you have already submitted then forget it. If you will submit it again and again it will take much longer.

Well, DMOZ has a strict selection criteria since it has human editors. It might take from weeks to months to get listed. Read more about it here:

What you can ensure is not make repeated submissions if not getting listed.

Its important in terms of credibility but then its not a be all - end all solution.
There are much effective ways apart from directory submissions.

In order for DMOZ to accept you your site needs to be fully functional and rich with content. DMOZ also reviews your title and description. I wouldn't rush to submit a site until it is running perfectly.
