Keywords targeting the home page

Hello friends,
Facing a small problem please advise me what should be done in this situation?
Client has given some keywords but all the keywords are not targeting the main page but some of them are coming in search with inner pages of website. So to target all the keywords for home page do I have to start the SEO from the first step?

I don't think it is good choice to target your keywords on home page. You have to distribute keyword targeting equally on different pages of website as per its theme and subject of the keyword.

Targeting keywords with different theme on same page wouldn't get the result quickly.

you have to look carefully which keyword is relevant to home p[age first optimize that keyword and then start internal pages

If they are ranking good for those pages that you must not change them. Use different keywords for every page.
