Yes Google may penalize the website with duplicate content..Google and other search engine consider content as very important factor for ranking the websites.They want to deliver fresh and highly relevant results to their users and not those website which have content of other website.

Duplicate Content affects a site rank. Google Bot always crawls the content of a site and if it find duplicate content sometimes Google banned the site.

Yes, it does. Content plays a very vital role in getting good amount of visitors as Google always likes a rich and unique content.

As per Google Panda update, now there is no place for duplicate content.

Duplicate content is definitely a problem since it affects the quality of search results. It ends up in a poor user experience. If SE’s discover a website with duplicate content, it will not directly lead to a ban but it will not appear in search results.

Yes using duplicate content effect your ranking in negative way. The Google do not index them and there are possibilities that they might ban site with duplicate content.

The Google may throw your site in to sand box. Unique content is very important.
