I think profile backlinks have no much importance as comparison to backlinks from relevant,do follow and high PR websites.We should always keep focus on quality backlinks than quantity.So there are so many ways through which you can get quality backlinks beside of profile linking.

Backlinks do help your site reputation by being a measure of how popular your site is compared to other websites however....alll links aren't equal. Using anchor text is good but also you have to consider the PR of the site from where the link is coming from. Also you need to try to spread where the links come from. If all links come from forums they won't help much. I hope that helps.

In the form of backlinks , one can get the traffic to the site and traffic with the meaningful content helps to get the high position in search result. And we get the backlink in terms of keyword so this way we can get high position for keyword also. And by different keyword with useful content for separate page, we can get all our site page more searched and indexed.

I agree. Today quality of backlinks is very important. Thousands of low quality backlinks is a junk, this will not do any good for your website.
