Go for PHP and then ASP. PHP because you will readily find alot of freeware for it in the form of forum softwares and CMS, etc. So go for PHP.

Go for ASP first then migrate yourself to ASP.Net....
It will be better for your future.

Thanks,

Default I would go for PHP

Hi

Personally I would go for PHP, the reason being that its open source and cheaper web hosting. Its also easy to learn. CGI can be very cumbersome to perform even some of the easiest tasks. Sorry I don't know much about coldfusion.

I know there are conflicting views in this thread, I suggest looking at some of the other similar threads to get a vote.

Cheers

Paul

I also think that PHP is better. But I know a lot of people who prefer Java development and even .Net development....

I think it depends on what kind of application your trying to build and your own personal background.

PHP is prolly the easiest for a beginner.

I think PHP is the most diverse and easiest to learn. There are many of them to choose, but if you were to choose one I would go for PHP.

I say do a couple of hello world and simple database connections using php/mysql && asp/mssql and see what you feel most comfortable with, then look into later the other language.

PHP does have more free applications (wordpress, joomla, postNuke) as everyone else has said.

I personally prefer PHP, it's what I first learned, did a little bit with asp and didn't like it, microsoft will not last forever.

Default some good reason

"Programmed in PHP with a MySQL database, The language has evolved beyond its original purpose to support object-relational database management systems and the PHP include in his core a set of functions that permit to talk, connect and interchange data with MySQL database. All PHP web-server give a very simple and useful interface, PHP includes a large number of free and open source libraries, widely-used Open Source scripting language, especially suited for Web development, for producing dynamic web pages. (from: freelanceidol.com)"
I think it's some good reason for php.

I still prefer OOP (Object oriented Programming). I can easily understand it because of its friendly interface and codes.

I found PHP some bit more complicated language. I adopt XML, simple like HTML.
