I bought a domain for $6000 but because of the refund, I lost about $350 due to currency conversion. So be careful if you are buying something from different countries.

If you both have the same monetary unit I don't think the transaction will create a problem. The case mentioned above is also true for other payment processors like Xoom. Sending funds using the recipients local currency instead of dollar denomination seems to be impractical because local currency exchange rates are a bit appreciated.

You have chosen the bad transaction or payyment procedure. If you planning to pay this huge amount to buy a domain, you should have gone any other alternative ways like Electronic fund transfer [ Direct bank transfer ], then you would have been safe.
