switch to paypal or not?
Hi,
I am running an e-shop and wanted to switch to paypal to accept the payments.
But after I read horrible things about it I need to get an advice on whether sign up to them or not.
Here is what people say about it:
webexplorer.100webspace.net/paypaltruth.html
Is it true or not?
Thanks in advance

Paypal has been serving clients since I was still in high school. Sure there are a few glitches here and there. But more than 90 percent of those are from people not securing their accounts well enough. Phishing sites are everywhere and if you don't keep passwords and usernames to yourself then you might as well bid your money goodbye. I'm from the other side of the globe where paypal operates and I have always received my payments on time. Go for it, just make sure not even your dog can see your account information. Be safe.

Deciding to go with PayPal or with a regular merchant account should be based on the following factors.
1. Do you have poor or no credit? If yes go with PayPal if no go with a regular merchant account.
2. Is customer service important to you? If yes, go with a merchant account provider, if no, go with PayPal.
3. Do you want money from your transactions to go directly into your bank account, or do you want it in your bank account within 3 days or earlier. If yes, go with a merchant account. Paypal can take up to 5 days or more to deposit money into your account and charge you a fee to transfer funds into your bank account. Why so long? PayPal holds that money for that many days because it makes interest of your money for a few days. Sounds like pennies but if you consider how many people use PayPal and how much money passes through their hands on a daily basis its millions!
4. Are transaction rates important to you? If so go with a merchant account. PayPal does not have competitive rates. If you shop around with various other merchant account providers you will find that in the long run you save money with a merchant account.
5. Beware that some customers just don't like paypal and will not buy from sites that only offer PayPal.
That's my advice. I will be frank, I do work for a merchant account company, and I want the forum to know that. That said, PayPal works for some people, and many people love it, and many people hate it. Its also important to know that you can have PayPal and a merchant account running on your site. My advice is to do some research and base your decision on the factors important to your business. If you decide to look into a merchant account look at several different providers and be careful of the one that have contracts or the ones with cancellation fees. Most merchant account companies (but not mine) have these and entice clients with super low rates that they suddenly jack up a couple months later because you're now under contract and it will cost hundreds of dollars to cancel the contract (think cell phone companies). Also check out any company you are looking at with the BBB.
I hope this has been helpful.

Yeah! 50% of the webmasters are using paypal for sending and receiving money. I find the currency conversion charges quite costly but when it comes to authenticity and convenience, paypal is the best. And therefore i never truned off the paypal.

A majority of online users are using Paypal. Even I have been using it since a long time. Yes, even i have heard that paypal freezes some account for long time periods, but that is only to be secure and avoid frauds. In my opinion it is the most convenient payment processor at present.

Paypal is the safest and cheapest I think. If you opted for other payment processes there would always be some fraud or scams too, they have mentioned here to keep your paypal details to yourself to be safe.

Paypal is good, the only hard thing for this was the requirements needed before you can widraw or lift a fund from your papal account, a lot of process. That is why a search any alternnatives for this one that can really help me with no hussle during widrawal of funds, and that how i find xoom money transfer. It is almost as paypal but easy to use. Try it.

If you are scared of using Paypal, then you can set up a direct credit card payment on your website. There are many e-commerce websites that work the same way.

Paypal is the most used payment processor worldwide. It dominates all other payment processors. You should also switch to it.

Earlier this summer I placed a laptop for sale on eBay. The winning bidder paid via PayPal, and was a "verified" member. They wanted me to ship the item to an address that wasn't verified. Knowing the processes that a customer goes through to become verified, I had no problem in filling the customer's request. Seven weeks later, I receive an email that the PayPal member had the charges reversed due to fraudulent use.
Some 3rd party was able to gain access to his account and make this fraudulent purchase from me. His credit card company, and NOT PayPal protected him, and he received his money back. My PayPal account was now at a negative $1400.00. Not completely reading and understanding all of the policies spelled out, and nowhere present when the invoice appears where the buyer sends the ship to address is the "ineligible" word that protects PayPal, and costs me $1400.00.
The two PayPal rep's that I was able to speak with both had indicated in great detail how a criminal could easily set up fraudulent accounts, and gain access to honest member's accounts through "fishing" emails. I feel that it is criminally negligent of PayPal to allow a transaction to occur, and the money should stay in escrow until the item reaches the verified member's address.
The crime could never have occurred if this were the case. By my conversation with two PayPal representatives, I now know that PayPal is not safe and secure. Very scary.
