If you are new to internet marketing you have probably seen the term CTR thrown around quite often. So, What is CTR? Well, CTR rate simply stands for click through rate. Click through rate is the percentage of people who visit your page (or email) and click through to your desired link. So if you send out an email to your list and 500 people viewed it, and 250 clicked through to the product you were promoting your click through rate would be 50%. If you made a post on your blog promoting a product and 100 people visit that page and 38 click on your affiliate link your click through rate would be 38%.

hi
hello
according to me Click through rate is important because it gives you a good idea on how well your copy is working. If you have written a good ad, post, or email that really makes the prospect want to learn more then you will have a high click through rate. If your ad isn't getting a very high CTR then it's probably time to go back to the drawing board and try something new (if possible test the two against each other). One thing you need to be careful of is writing something outlandish just to get a high click through rate. If you say something about the product you are promoting just to get people to click through your sales will hurt when they realize you are not delivering on your promise.

RE: what is CTR?
Hi,
CTR would refer to "click through rate" and it is a measure on PPC network like Google adwords for measuring the click rate with impression. It would also affect your bids on Google adwords.

Affiliate marketing future is very vast.Affiliate are getting commission and merchants are selling product are earning money.merchant will always need affiliate for promoting their product ,without affiliate selling product is very difficult and affiliates are increasing their earning through banner posting and increasing their profit.so its future is very bright.I don't think there could be any competition between the both.

CTR stands for clickthrough rate, and in the simplest form, it is the number of clicks an ad receives divided by the number of times the ad, ad unit, or page is viewed. In other words, it is the percentage of how many clicks an ad received (based on how many views it received).
Therefore, the higher the CTR is, the better the performance is (ie: a larger number of clicks an ad/ad unit receives).

CTR stands for click-through rate.
A CTR is obtained by dividing the "number of users who clicked on an ad" on a web page by the "number of times the ad was delivered".
More information about CTR then see the below link-

For example, if a banner ad was delivered 100 times (impressions delivered) and 1 person clicked on it (clicks recorded), then the resulting CTR would be 1 percent.

CTR stands for click thru rate, which means how many time a click is made on a shown ad, so lets say a ad appears 10 time in your site but you get only 1 click on it, so thats is the ratio, out of 10 time you get 1 time clicked
CTR could effect due to many reasons, might not have enough ad to show, or ad placement is not right etc

what is CTR?
Calculating CTR is not difficulty at all. All you need are the ad impressions and the clicks that ad received and the formula:
Clicks / Ad Impressions= CTR
If you have one click and 100 impression then your CTR will be 1%.

What is CTR
Besides being a fun mormon acronym standing for "choose the right" it is a term used frequently in online marketing meaning clickthrough rate. It is a great way of measuring the success of an internet marketing campaign. Wikipedia says that is it is calculated by the number of users who clicked on an ad on a web page by the number of times the ad was delivered. So, if a banner ad was delivered 100 times and 1 person clicked on it (clicks recorded), then the resulting CTR would be 1 percent.
Hope that helps!

As above other member told that CTR stands for Click Through Rate:
Its is the percentage of clicked on your site url in the ratio of your site appeared in the google search result.
I mean if in a day 20 searcher have searched for a word "online MBA programs" in google and my sites has 3rd place in the listing then my sites shows on 20 times for them. but there is not possibility how many of them will clik on my site if 15 of them have clicked on my site then. then the CTR is 75%.
If the our site is listed in top then the CTR is obviously higher than the sites have lower SERP.
