Default peel away ads

Have you seen these new peel away ads? Some people think they are going to be the next best thing to advertising.

I really do not agree.

Let me tell you what they are first if you haven't seen them. The advertiser buys a spot at the top corner of the page. I have only seen them in the top right corner. There is a little triangle waiting to be opened. Once you hover around it, the ad peels back and it is revealed to the user.

Although I think it is a good concept in that it is non-intrusive, I think it is too non-intrusive. I do not even see the corners quickly and have only looked because someone told me to watch for peel aways ads.

In my opinion, the clicks are going to be very low since they can hardly be seen.

Is anyone having any success with peel away ads?

I first saw this on http://adgridwork.com they were using it to advertise a new launch in their network and since it was their own product I didnt find it intrusive, I just thought it was a cool way to advertise their new product. But on DP people were talking about using it for affiliates and if this becomes popular I just wont visit those sites.

That's an interesting idea but for my kind of topics, I think the peel-aways will just cheapen my sites. I am going to stick to my traditional promotions of including the product in my content as a suggestion or on the sidebar where the uers choose if they want to look or not.

I kind of agree with you that they are not that great for affiliates. I wouldn't stop visiting a site but I wouldn't click on the corner either to look at the ad.

Peel away ads can not have more click as most of the time they go unnoticed.
