To start you have to realize an affiliate manager costs 3-5k per month. To me, after interviewing a couple of them I felt that money would be better used elsewhere. I think through forum participation I can learn quite a bit about what affiliates want from their merchants.

If you have the time, do it yourself. The learning curve is steep, but there are very good resources out there to help. If you either are intimidated by the lack of knowledge of time, find a good manager. Try to cut a deal with them on a percentage of profit. You may get them to knock down their fee, for a piece of the action if it looks feasible to them.

Affiliate marketing is an easy and very popular way to get started on the internet mainly because you do not need to create a product of your own and you are provided with an affiliate website. However, is this enough or should you have your own website and start an online affiliate home business of your own? When one is provided with a product as well as the promotional tools it is no wonder that affiliate marketing has become such a popular way to get started on the internet.
Once you sign up as an affiliate you are usually given an affiliate website but one has to question whether this is sufficient to start and build a successful affiliate marketing business on the internet. You are more likely to achieve success in affiliate marketing on the internet by starting your own website due to the fact that you cannot make any changes to an affiliate website in order to optimize it for the search engines to gain organic traffic.

Thanks
