Default Copyrighted Names

Have you ever registered Copyrighted domain names? What happened? Did you develop them?

I registered hotmailservices.com and abercrombiefitch.info, thinking that they were great domains, and when I asked to get them appraised, people told me to cancel their registration immediately. Luckily I was within the 5-day grace period and GoDaddy refunded me completely.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

A friend of mine got the bright idea to reg a name with google in it. He even went so far to develop the site and got lots of traffic. The site was hugely successful and would have still been if he used another name.

Then google came calling. Basically they took the name. Lock, stock and barrel. Personally I will never understand why people take the chance. I mean he went on and on in forums about how he had been done in. Why should big corps go after the small guy.

And I was thinking - you have to know any corporation is going to come after its property.

That is a very good example wesley on why you should copyright your domain (if you know that the site will be popular)
but it is also very costly to copyright a site, you should only do it if it is poular i guess
