Default Best defense against scammers

Online scam is rampant. Its because scammers easily get away. Cyber laws are not in place thus running after scammers is a tough job. What is the best way to deal with scammers given such contraint online?

I think it sort of has to be managed in small pieces. For instance when someone on an auction site or a forum find someone scamming other members, they need to be banned sooner than later.

I know people come back with new usernames but certainly there must be ways to stop that. I am thinking about auction sites where you must verify your account. How can they keep coming back as someone new without getting stopped.

Their bank info and cc info must be identical.

The first line of defense against scammers is with users, if you are buying something use middlemen like paypal never pay directly. Also if you see something that looks like a scam dont be afraid to report it, almost every site and forum has a report button.

Always accept PAYMENT FIRST for your services. That saves a lot of energy!

I agree with alpha,
But sometimes it is hard in saying that when buying a product,
I wish there was a easy way to find scammers and get rid of them all.

Always exercise due diligence if you transact online. Use credit card for payment or other payment processors with a chargeback feature. Be also aware of commonly used scam schemes like phishing, etc.

Its better to check whether the transfer is done ssl secured, for example paypal and rapidshare uses them,Also you can differentiate the mail sent from paypal and a paypal scammer, since paypal wont send a mail such as Dear user etc...Also when you click it directly goes to paypal website, while a scammers website does not

There's been some great advice so far, using middlemen is an obvious one, at least then you'd have someone to turn to! I would say just take care with what you do, be diligent when making a transaction, and use your common sense.

Remember the golden rule of business and common sense, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!

Apart from this like others have said, use paypal or other payment processors with a chargeback feature.

scamming will never stop because there are to many people out there looking for a quick buck and try everything with out thinking or looking into it first. Like someone else said if its to good to be true it probably is.

The best thing you could do is to forward the mail to abuse@UnsubCentral.com, I have been using this for the past two years, great response

I think using middleman is really good and also being paid first before doing the job sounds good too.

I will also try using the site given by kothar64, i think it would be useful for the future.

Avoid being scammed in the first place. Take all necessary precautionary steps possible. For new users of a site, don't lend them money, and in a trade, ensure that they provide the money/service before you do (provided you're a respected member). If you take time to build up a good reputation on a site, then there's no reason why this shouldn't work out

Knowing how scammers work can help you avoid getting scammed. You should be aware of the warning signs so you don't get caught flat footed.

scams are common now a days and mostly with credit cards never enter your credit card information that is not ssl secure so be sure to enter your bank details or credit card informatuon on any merchants site as many are scammers today the best option to use is paypal you are secure if you pay through paypal as if it is wrong youn can charge back.
