Default Pre-Photoshop

What program would you recommend an adult to before he or she tries Photoshop? Or would you say just dive in and start with it?

I don't know about teaching adults, but I instruct pc lessons and I start my kids grades k-3 on tux paint and kid pix. Kids are very creative...I love the stuff they come up with.

If you wanted something free, try Gimp, it will get you used to dealing with graphics. Don't use it too long or you will get set in a way of working so that when you go over to PS you will get confused. If you have the cash, maybe jump right in, there are a swathe of learning programs, Lynda, for instance, it costs but it is not bad. You could also Yahoo PS Tutorials there are some great free sites which also have free brushes and extra stuff.

Hope it goes well.

Bertie

Try Coreldraw. It is my favorite. Also in professional courses it is taught before Photoshop to develop the concepts.

Tried CS4 just this week. A lot of improvement but not that usable for editing and and other projects. The basics is still the same, and that what really matters most.

I personally thing you should dive right in with Photoshop. There's a nice free program called paint.net which can be found at getpaint.net

On photoshop? On your text layer you need to right click on the layer in the layer pallette and click on blending options. Under there you will find an option called 'Outer glow'. If you mess around with the settings there you can create a nice glow effect.
