I suppose I am very bad at optimizing. Typically I'll do my CSS while slicing a design but I never go back to check the optimization of it. Then again, I don't use CSS for layouts much, I typically use HTML tables. I know, it is a bad habit to get into.

AffiliateSeeking will become famous soon enough
I use CSS and html tables. When I started learning html just over 6 years ago, that is the way I learn't. Unfortunately I learn't it straight from the web at my own speed so I had no one next to me telling me what is right or what is wrong. I had to learn all the rights and wrongs from forums. I used htmlgoodies to start learning html and tables and that is how I got into using them and thought that was the way.

I still use tables, but also use quite a bit of css. I heard that using tables takes longer for a page to load as it has to read it twice. It has to read it once so that it can get the tables layout stucture and then again to actually show the information with the design.

When CSS came out I was a little wary of it since I learned html with tables and that always worked fine for me. But I eventually came around and am a strong css supporter. its not only brought loadtimes down but bandwidth as well.
