Default Web editor

Definitely the most popular choice is Macromedia's Dreamweaver. It helps web developer in the web development process since it can ease the task. But I heard Microsoft's Expression Web is making a noise and a good alternative for Dreamweaver. Have you used this application?

I really just use a glorified notepad - Crimson Editor. I guess that is okay for those that can write themselves but others need something more.

I don't know specifically about Microsoft's Expression Web but I hope it is better than that Front Page. I hope they have spent some serious time developing this product and worked out the kinks.........lol

Expression Web has a very good review and a far upgrade of Frontpage. Indeed good features of Frontpage were included in Expression Web. One drawback I noticed was that it has minimal support for PHP for obvious reason. Microsoft's own web script is ASP/.NET .

Haven’t tried expression web, but the front page is pathetic when it comes to dealing with php and css based websites. This is the reason I have started using macromedia dreamweaver.

I've used Dreamweaver for as long as I can remember and wouldn't even consider looking at other alternatives. It's the perfect tool for web design IMO.

Frontpage is a Microsoft product. It will only provide good support to its own web script ASP. Frontpage was deficient that's why Micrsosoft dumped it and came out with a better product which can match Macromedi's Dreamweaver.

When my site is in html, I used frontpage as web editor. Now my sites are in php, so I am using notepad++ for coding and use localhost server to test codes. Regarding pictures, banner photoshop is good.

Dreamweaver is the most popular. In freeware, I suggest you use NVU. Its great and according to some better than dreamweaver.

My personal experience is that it is easier to use than Dreanweaver,

I use a glorified version of notepad as well. Evrsoft FirstPage. It's quite good with the coloured tags and everything. I prefer working with raw code, so I see no need for me to get Dreamweaver

I use HTML so I started off with Notepad and Frontpage. Once I discovered Dreamweaver, I use it defaultly. It's a lot more user-friendly than Frontpage is in my opinion. I deal more with graphics than programming, so the more user-friendly the editor is, the better for me.

Dreamweaver is the best as far as web editing is concerned. The feel and the design is just great-gives you a professional touch while Frontpage seems to be geared towards beginners.
